National Museum dates back to the 19th century (1885-1890) and has been designed by the famous Josef Schultz. It is a neo-renaissance building house which has been utilized for the National Museum. One of the most significant buildings, in terms of history, this is a place that unfolds a lot of historical facts of the Czech Republic. Last year, in 2018, it was reopened after reconstruction and celebrated 200 years of its existence.
The national museum was damaged twice, during military attacks. The first attack happened in 1945 and the second one in 1968. Therefore, this place has undergone renovation multiple times to survive through the hardships so that the significant national monument could be saved and also modernized with time.

The various buildings of the National Museum are located all over Prague, but the main building is at the top of Wenceslas Square. The exterior of the main building is worth exploration. A lot of people revisit the National Museum during the night to take beautiful pictures of the exterior of the building.
How to get there?
To get to the main building of the National Museum, you can take the metro lines, A and C, to the Muzeum station. Tram 11 and 13 can also take you to that station, and then you walk down. You can also take the tram number 3, 9, 17, 21 or 24 from the “Vaclavske namesti” station and walk up through Wenceslas Square.
Opening Hours
The National Museum is opened all around the year, apart from the time when it is being reconstructed or is going through some minor renovations. The opening times are the same throughout the year. It is open from 10 am to 6 pm.
